Ellis Heber Rece papers, 1965-1984.

The collection consists of materials relating to Ellis Herber Rece from 1965-1984. The papers include two letters written to Emory faculty member George P. Cuttino, as well as a series of notes on the history of the university. These reminiscences (ca. 75 pages) are about Emory campus life and activities, including observations about the growth of the university and the advent of coeducation. The collection also contains an index of the Emory Wheel (student newspaper) from 1919-1965.

George Peddy Cuttino, educator and historian, was born 9 March 1914, in Newnan, Georgia, and died 4 October 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia. Ellis Heber Rece, educator and administrator, was born 25 June 1900 in Huntington, West Virginia, and died 17 November 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. Rece attended Denison and Temple Universities; graduated from Marshall College (B.A., 1923) and Emory University (M.A., 1925); and served Emory as a faculty member in religion (1926-1969), Dean of Men (1935-1947, 1959-1960), and Dean of Students (1947-1959).
